CBD 101

What is a cannabinoid?

Cannabinoids (ex., THC and CBD) are the chemical compounds secreted by cannabis flowers that provide relief to an array of symptoms including pain, nausea, anxiety, and inflammation. Cannabis and hemp contain over 100 different cannabinoids, many of which have documented medicinal value.

Is CBD illegal?

No, the 2018 Farm Bill passed by President Trump legalized the production and sale of hemp and its extracts. Hemp, by federal law, cannot contain more than 0.3 percent delta 9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, and it is one of the many cannabinoids found in both cannabis and hemp plants. CBD differs from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) because it doesn’t cause the intoxicating, euphoric “high” associated with marijuana.

What is the difference between hemp and cannabis?

The main defining characteristic between hemp and cannabis is based on a single factor — the amount of THC in the plant. Any hemp plant grown with more than the federal limit of 0.3 percent delta 9 THC is then considered cannabis.

What are the effects of CBD?

Unlike THC, the effects of CBD do not get users high, an important distinction that has helped drive the popularity of this natural compound. Traditional (prescription medications) tend to focus on symptoms and mask the root of the problem. CBD promotes the body’s natural response to address the root cause of those symptoms and creates a more balanced state for all of our body’s systems

What if i get drug tested?

When using CBD products that are full spectrum (containing trace amounts of THC under .3%), there is a possibility that you could test positive for THC. If you are concerned about testing positive on a drug test, we highly recommend using hemp-derived CBD products that are an isolate or broad spectrum (no THC).

The defining characteristic between hemp and marijuana is the chemical composition contained within each plant. Both hemp and marijuana can produce high amounts of CBD, the non-intoxicating cannabis compound; however, THC is produced at very different levels. While hemp can contain no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight, marijuana can contain up to 30% THC content.

Categorizing Cannabis as either Hemp or Marijuana is like trying to classify all fruits in the citrus genus as either sweet or sour, without acknowledging the diverse characteristics of each fruit. Just like with citrus, there are many different colors, sizes, smells, and of course flavors in the cannabis genus. To limit the differences in each plant just by THC content is a very broad classification.
